Atelier Seuil

Atelier Seuil

We design homes, interiors and workplaces from what the site already offers: the slope, the wind, the four o’clock light.

(01) Approach

Build with light, dwell on the threshold.

Every project begins with a full day on site, from morning to dusk, watching where the light falls.

Then we draw very few things, but the right ones: thresholds, thicknesses, views.

(03) Expertise

Four ways into a project. One team, from the first survey to the last detail.

Homes, housing, public buildings

New buildings shaped by their site: placement, orientation, materials. We follow construction all the way to handover.

Architecture

01 / 04
Homes, hospitality, offices

Light first, materials second. Plans, bespoke joinery, lighting, the choice of stones and woods.

Interiors

02 / 04
Heritage, concrete, extensions

Keep what holds, open what stifles. Surveys, compliance upgrades and the transformation of existing buildings.

Renovation

03 / 04
Stairs, kitchens, objects

A staircase, a door handle, a thirteen-foot table. Drawn in the studio, made with California craftspeople.

(05) Method

From sketch to site

01 — Sketch

We start with the site, not the plan.

A full day on the land, from morning to evening: surveys, the sun’s path, views, prevailing winds. The first sketches are made on the spot, in pencil.

(06) The studio01 / 05

Fourteen architects and designers, one long table in Los Angeles, and the time to do things well.

(07) What guides us

Inhabit the light, not just the space.

A good house reads by the passing hour: a patch of sun crossing the living room, the cool shade under an overhang, the evening reddening a concrete wall. That is what we design.
